11th Feb 2008
The 1st Chapter Meeting in the lunar calendar in the Year of the Rat for Lion City Toastmasters Club!
The Word of the Day "Recapitulate" was introduced by Diana Low and resident language evaluator, Ng Seng Chuan, taught the members how to enunciate the word properly.
Fellow toastmasters warmed up by describing their attributes according to the zodiac animal sign they were born in...
Jason Bay, our Table Topic Master of the Evening, dished out quotes on love and friendship in accordance of the approaching Valentine's Day (which falls on the 14th February). The members all had a go at it!
Both Josephine Teo and Augustine Lee made their speeches for Project 7, "The Power of Belief" and Advanced Project 1 "Insure your Health , Protect Your Wealth" respectively.
During the break, at the brilliant suggestion of Ting Chee Kheong, the members held an impromptu "Yu Sheng" session! Check out the pictures taken during the feast!
A debate on "Why should men buy gifts for their significant others during Valentine's Day" divided the room into the women's team versus the men's team.
Throughout the session, there was a lot of hilarity. After an approximate 25 minute dialogue, there was still an unclear resolution, ringing true to the phrase, "Men and women are from different planets!"
Adviced by the women's team, spending $10 per stalk of rose and giving the bouquet of flowers to their wife/girlfriend on Valentine's Day will definitely save the men 364 days of nagging...Guess we shall wait and see if its true!
Recapitulating...
