The Art of Writing Powerlines
11th September 2006
LionCity Toastmasters Club President, Mr Goh Kheng Chuan, conducted "The Art of Writing Power Lines" WorkShop, to share his experience and knowledge on writing power lines when crafting a speech. His speech crafting tips were delightful and the audience was definitely drawn to his presence. Overall, the successful workshop left a memorable and enlightening effect on the audience.
Member June Tan reprised her role as the Table Topic Master. Putting her creativity to full throttle, she collected a few items found in the bathroom as subjects for the table topic session. Some items in her basket included a hairbrush, a tube of toothpaste, a bottle of hair conditioner, a small mirror etc. Member Diana Low won the round when she talked about her recent dental trip when she chose a packet of dental floss as her topic.
A big round of applause to Dhamayanthi Devanan for making her debut speech at the LionCity Toastmasters’ meeting! Her Ice Breaker speech saw her recollect fond memories of her life; her early childhood of frolicking with the deers in her hometown, her university days peppered with friendships fostered with close friends, meeting her husband and eventually settling in Singapore.
Member Seah Guek Eng finished first in the Prepared Speech session with her moving story on a true story, titled, “Linda”. Guek Eng wooed the audience with her powerful speech on Batam’s child prostitution by peeling the petals of a white rose, metaphorically symbolising the loss of child innocence, exposing the vulnerable side of the child to the social ills of the world. A well-deserving win!
